IAS AC478 Metal Building Assemblers Inspection Accreditation

The IAS AC478 metal building assemblers inspection accreditation is one of several accreditation services FET offers for the metal building industry.  The IAS AC478 audit is a complete audit reviewing processes, quality and procedures.  It provides an extra level of quality for metal building contractors, erectors and assemblers.

Farabaugh Engineering and Testing is a fully accredited inspection agency for the International Accreditation Service (IAS).  We have received our certification to preform the metal building systems, metal building components and metal building assembly (erection) audits.

The IAS AC478 program is the Metal Building Assemblers Inspection Accreditation.  The accreditation is based on requirements in IAS Accreditation Criteria AC478 and the International Building CodeĀ®.

This program is a quality audit for the assembly/erection of a metal building.  It includes metal building construction as well as metal building assembly.  The audit goes through the process of assembling a per-engineered metal building system and certifies that the company is knowledgeable and possess quality practices for erecting a metal building system.

Why do I need this certification?

If you are looking for a way to set your metal building erection / assembly company a part from your competition this would be a great way to do it.  This certification means you have passed and continue with your quality program and offer quality services.

When issues arise with a metal building typically the building owner goes back to the manufacturer of the metal building, however the metal building company is usually not to blame – it is typically a result of poor erection/assembly/installation.  Up until now there was no certification process in place for metal building contractors/erectors/assemblers.  With the AC478 program we are seeing less issues with the metal building.

There are no requirements in place making the AC478 certification mandatory, however companies are choosing to get the certification as a way to separate them from metal building contractors or erectors that do not necessarily know what they are doing.

Who Recognizes the IAS AC478 Certification?

  • Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association (MBCEA)
  • North American Iron Workers / IMPACT Labor-Management
  • Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA)
  • International Code Council (ICC).
